8 for the 8th of April
In the public installation “8 per 8 Prillin” (8th for the 8th
of April) Sead Kazanxhiu, painted 8 large tractor wheels with the colors of the Rromani flag and installed them in front of the entrance of the Albanian Parliament. This installation was made on the occasion of International Roma Day. The work represents an effort to increase the visibility of the Roma community. Although the Roma, like all people, cope with problems and inequities in everyday life, society rarely shows interest in learning about ore recognizing Roma experiences, or about the people’s traditions and culture. This installation was placed in front of the Albanian Parliament as an act of symbolic protest, in which Kazanxhiu he uses art to fight
for the inclusion of Roma in the decision-making system. At the same time, the artist uses art as a form of resistance to challenging the traditional perception of cultural resistance, giving security and self-confidence to the Roma community.
